Aqilah was a final-year microbiology student at the National University of Malaysia (UKM). Her final year project focuses on identifying and quantifying carbon cycle-related genes in mangrove soil samples using bioinformatics analysis. Through this study, she aims to identify genes involved in the carbon cycle and understand their role in carbon cycling processes within mangrove soil sediments, which may contribute to climate change mitigation.
In addition to her academic work, she has experience in bioinformatics analysis and qPCR techniques. She is passionate about environmental microbiology and its potential applications in sustainability and climate change.
Outside of her studies, she enjoys playing ping pong, which helps her stay active and improve her reflexes. She also enjoys reading fictional books, as they allow her to explore different worlds, ideas and perspectives. Reading helps her to relax and enhance her creativity while expanding her imagination.
