Muhammad Arif Samshuri is a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Hazlin's lab, with extensive experience in marine environments since 2015. He earned his PhD in 2024 from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, where he dedicated significant time to research in both field and laboratory settings. His work involved sample collection and environmental data recording using various scientific instruments in the field, while in the lab, he specialized in molecular techniques such as oxidative stress assays, DNA and protein sample processing for sequencing.
He is currently working on a project focused on the metabolomic profiling of mangrove soil samples from field and under controlled laboratory conditions. This research aims to investigate how different environmental stressors, such as temperature changes, influence the metabolic profiles of these critical ecosystems, providing insights into microbial activities and ultimately explaining the complex cause-and-effect relationships driven by climate change.
Apart from research, which demands significant time in the office and laboratory, he actively participates in long-distance running. He believes running is an approach for stress management and physical well-being, after working long hours indoors. Despite the challenges of maintaining a consistent training schedule, he has set an ambitious goal, which is to complete his first marathon in 2025.
